White Elegance, Lit by Candles

Henna and Liam’s proposal happened in the first days of August 2026 — at the time of writing, the petals had barely been swept. Theirs was the White Elegance set-up: a canopy of white flowers with warm bulbs hanging through it, gold stands down the aisle, and the terrace’s whitewash doing what it does with the late light. By the time the question was asked, the bougainvillea overhead had gone almost black against the sky and MARRY ME burned in letters down the aisle, with a line of candles and petals leading the eye to the water.

One knee, a ring held up in its box, champagne poured under the canopy — and then the walk nobody plans but everybody remembers, out along the quay of the old port in the blue evening, fishing boats knocking softly at their moorings, the cliff of Fira lit above. Two of the port’s dogs appointed themselves witnesses on the way; they were petted accordingly.

A two-hour booking was enough for all of it — the set, the moment, the dinner, the walk. That is what standing at the old port makes possible: no transfers, no cliff stairs, no rush. Just an evening, whole.
