Receptions · the dinner is the party

The Reception: One Long Table at Dusk

A reception at AION is dinner first: one long table on our private caldera terrace in Fira, white cloths for chairs and tables included, menus by Chef Iosif of Lomvranos Restaurant, and drinks from welcome pours to open-bar concepts. Marry here first, or marry elsewhere and come to us for the evening.

Dinner is the reception

Strip away the conventions and a wedding reception is a meal — the first one of your marriage. So we build ours the way Greeks have always built important meals: everyone at one long table, no head table apart from the rest, no table numbers, no room-hopping. The table runs along our terrace on the caldera side of Fira, the Aegean just below, and as the courses arrive the sky moves through its whole sunset repertoire behind the conversation. White cloths for the chairs and tables are included in our packages; candles do the rest.

What is on the table?

The menus are created by Chef Iosif, owner of Lomvranos Restaurant — Aegean cooking from a kitchen that has been part of Fira's history for years. You can pre-book from the meal packages and menus so the whole evening is settled before you fly, or order à la carte on the night for smaller parties. Every type of eater is planned for: vegetarian, vegan, allergies, and religious dietary requirements all get real dishes, not apologetic side plates. Menus themselves are shared on request when you enquire.

And what about the drinks?

Structured, so nobody thinks about a bill mid-toast. Welcome drinks can greet your guests as they step onto the terrace, and for the dinner itself there are open-bar concepts at three levels — from water, soft drinks and sparkling wine up to local wines, beers, ouzo and cocktails. Current per-person, per-hour rates are listed on the drinks packages and open bar page — confirm current rates when you enquire. Ask about the signature cocktails; they have names, and opinions.

Married somewhere else? Bring the dinner here

Plenty of couples marry elsewhere on the island — a chapel, a clifftop, a town hall — and then come to us for the part their guests will actually remember. A reception-only booking gets the same terrace, the same table and the same kitchen; your guests can even arrive by boat at the old port (Ormos Firon) the venue stands on, which turns the transfer between ceremony and dinner into a small voyage. If the ceremony is still undecided, we host those too — see a civil wedding by the Aegean or a micro wedding for up to 30 guests.

Who looks after the evening?

Our staff do, from the first welcome pour to the last glass. Courses are paced against the light rather than against a clock — the main arrives while the sky is still performing, dessert when the candles have taken over. The music system is yours for dinner playlists and first dances; toasts happen whenever the table demands them. You are hosting, but you are not working: that part is our job, and after twenty years of family evenings on this terrace, we are quite good at it.

How long does the evening last?

As long as you book the terrace for — the venue rental packages run from one to three hours, and the three-hour Obsidian evening comfortably holds a ceremony, dinner and the first hour of stars. Rates start at €500, flat in every season, and rescheduling is free. For the ceremony formats that can precede this table, start at the Santorini weddings hub.
